Formulation and Evaluation of Natural Scrub Cubes

ABSTRACT:
Natural cosmetics are becoming more and more popular among manufacturers and consumers. They will demonstrate this by using materials and resources that are essentially natural for cosmetics. As the contemporary lifestyle approaches, everyone is self-conscious about how they seem and uses a variety of chemically based cosmetics that are widely accessible in the market to make their skin appear beautiful without realizing the negative effects that these products have on the skin. Antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-aging plant components are typically found in herbal cosmeceuticals. Cosmetics are products that affect the biological function of the skin, and herbal cosmetics are the safest to use regularly with no known negative effects. Scrub, according to the findings, is a simple, safe, and effective method for maintaining good skin.

Herbs have been utilized
for thousands of a long time for a wide run of employments, such as food,
cleaning,
and makeup. The main physical
element that affects an individual's well-being is their face's skin1,2. Maintaining a healthy skin tone is essential for a healthy body.
Cosmetics are used on skin to enhance the personality, beauty, color,
complexity, tone, texture, etc3. Numerous
photochemical and botanical ingredients included in herbal products serve two
purposes: first, they are utilized as cosmetics for body care, and second, the
presence of these ingredients naturally promotes good skin through improved
biological activities of the human body4. Since
many herbal ingredients used in cosmetics are chosen through a "trial and
error" method, experience rather than experimental research guides their
use5. Face scrub has been viewed as a possible vehicle among topical
preparations because of its non-sticky texture, stability, and higher aesthetic
value6. An essential purpose of scrubs is to exfoliate. Exfoliating
is defined as "removing undesired dead skin cells from the skin." A
scrub is a gentle exfoliation procedure that leaves skin feeling clean, smooth,
and velvety after application. Every skin type can use it. The skin seems more
luminous and renewed as a result7. Exfoliation is required because
new skin cells are frequently generated at the dermis, the skin's bottom layer,
and transferred to the epidermis. As they rise to the surface, the uppermost
cells finally die and become filled with keratin. The purpose of a face scrub
with a natural exfoliant is to remove dead skin cells without having any
negative consequences. When you watch the dead skin peel off, it makes you feel
accomplished and is modestly yet effectively effective8,9. With
every scrub treatment, the appearance of the skin became noticeably better,
staying more vibrant, smooth, and clear without losing its It is believed that
cells, including natural oil, are preprogrammed while they are young and live
in the lower layers of the epidermis10. Antioxidants
prevent cellular deterioration by neutralizing free radicals, unstable oxygen
molecules that damage skin cells and result in wrinkles. According to the
study's conclusion, natural sources of excipient are preferable because they
are more readily available, non-toxic, and biocompatible11.
If the exact chemical exfoliation mechanism is unclear. To guarantee that it is connected to other cells for a specific amount of time, each cell contains an internal clock. Cells slough off as the time runs out because their consistency drops. While it is unclear what mechanism governs the activation process, the enzyme responsible for weakening the bonds is known. It is dormant in the skin unless triggered by an additional enzyme. The intricate process known as keratinization begins with the formation of a replacement cell in the stratum germinativum, the basal cell layer, and continues upward until it sheds as a corneum corneocyte. This typically takes four weeks; but, depending on the age and skin condition, it can take up to 75 days at the most. It goes without saying that younger skin is more adept than older skin at this desquamation process, which deeper-level encourages the growth of new cells.12,13 Melanin, an epidermal pigment, is the primary pigment that determines the color of the skin. Therefore, melanogenesis can be avoided and uneven skin tone can be decreased by inhibiting tyrosinase activity or synthesis. Therefore, significant anti-tyrosinase activity produced by the plants is employed as a skin-whitening ingredient in cosmetic formulations14.

MATERIALS AND METHODS:
Step 1: After powdering and sieving the components (Activated charcoal, Besan, wild turmeric, Brazilian clay, orange peel powder, coffee powder) sieve no. 44 was used. Following that, they were well sealed, moisture-resistant containers. In Table 1, the various components are given along with their primary functions. To facilitate subsequent processing, this was dried and stored in a desiccator.
Step 2: Every piece of equipment was washed and cleaned. In a mortar and pestle, fuller's earth, besan, orange peel powder, turmeric powder, and rosemary were mixed well. Next, add the coarse coffee powder and stir it into the mixture. Gum tragacanth solution was made in a beaker and left for a few minutes. Orange peel powder, Glycerin, menthol powder, and scent were added to the mixture while it was continuously stirred. Binder was added in the end and the mixture was well mixed after being set aside for a few minutes. For the finished product, the prepared mixture was put into mould.
Step 3: Following that, the mould was dried beneath a tray dryer. Clay scrub cubes were produced and gathered after drying.16

EVALUATION PARAMETERS:
Physical appearance, color, texture, odor, pH, washability, homogeneity, and grittiness of the formulation were all examined17,18.
· Color: The color of the cubes was greenish-yellow in colour.
· Odor: The Cubes have a characteristics smell.
· pH: The pH of Cubes was found to be ranging between 5 and 6. So, it can be concluded that cubes are acidic in nature.
· Spreadability: The cubes when mixed with little amount of water were easily spreadable over the skin.
· Consistency: The cubes are Solid in consistency.
· Grittiness: The cubes consist of particles which are gritty in nature to provide good scrubbing action.
· Foamability: Little foam was produced by cubes.
· Washability: As the cubes didn’t contain the oily particles, so they are easily washable with normal water.
· Scrubbing action: The cubes provided good scrubbing activity as it contains scrubbing ingredients like coffee, besan, etc.
· Irritability: The scrub cubes are non- irritant in nature, as all the ingredients used are natural.

RESULT:
The cubes made of clay
scrub were created and assessed. When the lab-formulated clay scrub cubes were
tested to several metrics including appearance, pH, washability, and
irritability, it was discovered that they satisfied all necessary
characterization requirements. As a result, the created mixture is frequently
employed as a powerful scrub to apply to skin that is radiant and healthy. Skin
felt soft, clean, and renewed after applying the scrub. It gave skin a lovely,
radiant, young appearance. The usage of herbal cosmetics has expanded as a
result of their reduced or absent adverse effects.
CONCLUSION:
A natural exfoliating clay
scrub in cube form was the goal of the current project. The evaluation of a
number of factors produced a favourable outcome and enhanced the skin's look
without causing any negative consequences.
